Forest School

At Wingrove Primary School, we offer a comprehensive Forest School experience. We have four qualified Forest School practitioners (Gill Rutter, John Rutter & Anthony MacLeod) who are all qualified Level 3 Forest School leaders. All learners from Reception through to Year 6 take part in an hour long Forest School lesson on a weekly basis:

Monday – Year 4 (AM), Reception (PM)

Tuesday – Year 6 (AM)

Wednesday – Year 3 (AM)

Thursday – Year 5 (AM)

Friday – Year 1 (AM), Year 2 (PM)

Forest School is a huge part of our school experience, and offers our learners the opportunity to learn and develop skills that they may otherwise never have the opportunity to otherwise work on. Forest School allows children to develop confidence, independence, self-esteem, their knowledge of the outdoor environment and their ability to build and grow relationships both with staff and their classmates. Children will be encouraged to work independently, in small groups and, on occasion, large groups depending on the activity they are participating in. Our children can be expected to take part in lessons including some of the following activities:

Shelter building                                             Natural art

Fairy & animal den building                          Bow saws

Hammock                                                     Loppers

Creating fires                                                Sheath knives

Cooking                                                        Planting vegetables

Weaving & Knot tying                                   Exploration through play
