Surveys for Parents

Northumbria University Oral Health Survey for Parents of Primary School Children

We have partnered with Professors from the School of Dental Sciences and Dentistry from the University of Sheffield and University of Leeds to explore parental perceptions of their children’s oral health. These professors were instrumental in developing the ‘Brush up’ intervention that was successfully implemented into primary schools in Glasgow and resulted in a significant drop in the number of caries and extractions in primary aged school children, and dental related absences from school.

We are conducting some primary research to explore parents’ views regarding the state of their children’s oral health and their thoughts on introducing support via information or interventions in the North East. We appreciate the enormous pressure that schools are facing, and we appreciate that we will have to be creative in co-developing information and interventions. For example: we could co-create creative media content for schools to use in lessons or to disseminate to parents via school newsletters and/or via community organisations/family hubs etc.

However, as a starting point we need to survey parents to explore whether they feel they need further knowledge and support to improve their children’s oral health; given that most oral health issues are preventable with good oral hygiene.

You are more than welcome to explore the survey’s content, prior to dissemination. All we ask is that you write ‘TEST’ as your memorable word, so we can delete your data from further data analysis.
